Shasta Nelson is the CEO of longtime Altruvistas travel partner GirlFriendCircles.com, and she has a pretty neat theory: that friendship can save the world!

Shasta has a new book out called, Frientimacy: How to Deepen Friendships for Lifelong Health and HappinessIn it, she reveals how anyone can form stronger, more meaningful friendships, marked by a level of trust the author refers to as “frientimacy.”

GirlFriendCircles.com is a women’s friendship matching site in 65 cities across the U.S. and Canada. Shasta is considered a friendship expert and she’s appeared on t.v. and in magazines to spread the gospel of female friendship.

Altruvistas and GirlFriendCircles have teamed up on multiple occasions to create custom travel adventures that encourage friendship building and exploration. Now we’re excited to be hosting a stop on Shasta’s national book tour happening on April 15, where she will teach from her newest book, Frientimacy. (That’s right. Frientimacy is not this author’s first rodeo.)

The Book Salon this Friday is happening in Berkeley, CA (see below for details). It will be a great opportunity to learn more about her book, as well as to engage in valuable Q&A time with Shasta herself! Best of all–copies of the book will be available at the event for a discounted price.

The Intimacy Gap

Success usually has more to do with who we know than what we know. But it’s not just a matter of knowing enough people. Research shows that most of us are incredibly networked and know a lot of people but still report feeling the kind of loneliness that comes with not feeling known by a prioritized few.

In other words, we are more connected than ever but still feel disconnected. Pretty heavy, huh?

Shasta Nelson calls this largely unacknowledged feeling of disconnection an “Intimacy Gap”. Her theory: there are gaps between the friendships we have and the ones we wish we had and many of us haven’t been taught how to develop friendships to more meaningful fulfillment.

What to Expect at the Book Salon

At the event, Shasta will speak about the three requirements of healthy relationships and what we can do to start, enhance, repair, or even end any relationship in our lives.

If you’re in the Bay Area, we hope you will join us for this fun evening of celebrating women, friendships, and the power of travel. Who knows–maybe you’ll even make some news friends there:-)

There will be a $10 suggested donation to benefit two organizations that support women and children in the community: MISSSEY and DreamCatcher Youth Services.
