Tanzania and Rwanda | Education and Excellence in the African Diaspora
Tour Sponsor: African American Regional Educational Alliances (AAREA)
Journey to East Africa with AAREA!
In Tanzania, we’ll immerse ourselves in understanding the country’s educational system, politics, and agricultural policy. We’ll visit traditional medicine clinic in Arusha and discuss preservation of indigenous knowledge with traditional healers. We will also exchange with a Maasai village, meet with artists, and visit a fair trade coffee co-op. Then, we’ll travel to the renowned Ngorogoro Crater Conservation Area for incredible wildlife viewing and to learn about regional conservation efforts. We’ll explore many unique, rich cultural and arts offerings at the United African Alliance Community Center, then head to Dar es Salaam for a city tour and cooking class! At the National Museum of Tanzania we will learn about human evolution, Tanzania’s history, and the East African slave trade.
For those staying on for Rwanda: We’ll visit and exchange with a women’s center, learn about contemporary educational pedagogies, learn about the history of Kigali, and make our way to the Kigali Genocide Memorial. We will have more arts and culture opportunities including a drumming workshop and time to explore markets.
In both countries, our journey includes multiple evening discussion circles facilitated by AAREA, as well as nights were evenings can be at your leisure.
