Cuba | A Culture of Arts & Photography in Cuba
This legal “Support for the Cuban People” journey offers a variety of arts and cultural exchanges in Havana, as well as in the beautiful tobacco-growing valley of Viñales, in Matanzas, province, and in the sandy north coast of Varadero. We will take a walking tour of Havana and visit with many local creatives. We will hike through the beautiful valley of Viñales and tour local farms, as well as visit Las Terrazas, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. In Matanzas, we’ll explore AfroCuban culture, visit a book-making artists’ collective, and enjoy leisure time at the coast.
We will meet local photographers, artists, dancers, singers, and musicians along all of our routes. Be prepared for a rich and exciting experience on the island.
About Joe Guerriero
A professional photographer for more than four decades, Joe’s work has appeared in many publications, including Sports Illustrated. He has completed international documentary photography projects in Pakistan, Turkey, and Cuba. His work has been featured at several national galleries, and he is an adjunct faculty member at a community college. Joe completed a feature documentary film, “Curtain of Water,” which aired on PBS Television and was screened at several film festivals, colleges, and universities. His short film from Cuba, “Santeria: Life in the Religion” was screened at Lehigh University Art Galleries in 2005 as well as at The Society for Photographic Education Conference. Joe has also created a film about his large Italian family, titled “La Famiglia; Keeping it Together,” as well as other shorts.
