Tour Sponsor: Portland Community College

This special journey highlights the culture and indigenous spiritual roots of the Oaxacan Day of the Dead. The celebrations take place over several days, with most activities taking place October 31st to November 2nd. Our journey complements these activities by exploring what takes place before and after these dates. Meet with educators, human rights activists, farmers, artists, and tradespeople to get a more intimate understanding of Mexico’s past and present. Visit important historical and archeological sites during our time together to learn about the ancient history of the indigenous cultures of MesoAmerica. Learn why El Día de los Muertos is such a significant celebration for the people of Oaxaca. Experience the bustling market culture where everyone goes to buy the things they need. Indulge in the special foods that are prepared at this time of year, like chocolate, tamales, and black mole sauce.
