Everyone in America is affected by race and racism. Understanding Race in America is a Learning and Listening immersion to support the understanding of this complex and provocative topic through the lens of the systems, structures and ideas that keep it alive and well.
Through lecture, discussion, and experience at historically relevant sites in Birmingham and Montgomery, AL, we will examine the institution of slavery, the Civil War and Jim Crow periods, the Civil Rights movement, and the white supremacy and black liberation movements of today.
Join Ricky Fishman and Malia Everette for this 7 day immersion into Birmingham, Montgomery and Selma! Some of the sites we will visit include: the Equal Justice Initiative’s Legacy Museum and National Memorial for Peace & Justice, the Rosa Parks & Freedom Riders Museums, the Birmingham Civil Rights Heritage Trail, the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Jazz Hall of Fame, and more. We will also have some incredible guest speakers joining us.
Processing circles will help integrate our experiences across our bodies, mind, energy, character and heart. There will alos be free time to explore on your own.
Understanding Race in America is a journey of education, inspiration, healing, and celebration that will ultimately move us closer to our individual and collective healing.
Ricky Fishman--chiropractor, writer, teacher, musician–has been leading educational tours for the past thirty years; from studying Buddhism in Nepal to exploring the conflict in Israel/Palestine. He is super excited to co-lead the “Understanding Race In America” with the amazing Malia Everette, CEO and founder of AltruVistas. He believes that conscious travel can open the door to transformation of a world in need of positive change.
