Tour Sponsor: W. Paul Coates and the Black Publishers and Writers Delegation

Join W. Paul Coates in Cuba as part of the Black Publishers and Writers Delegation as we attend the 34th Havana International Book Fair/Feria Internacional del libro de la Habana! On this people-to-people journey, we’ll spend two days at the Fair exchanging with Cuban and international authors before departing for Matanzas, a city known for its AfroCuban culture and legacy. There, we’ll visit a bookmaking workshop, an Afro-descendant community cultural project, learn about the history of La Ruta Esclava, enjoy an Orisha dance performance, and visit beaches. We’ll integrate our experiences and learning via community discussion. Back in Havana, we’ll exchange with more Cuban authors and filmmakers. You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in a classic car ride, enjoy Cuban jazz, and shop the local markets.

The 34th edition of Havana´s International Book Fair in 2026 will be dedicated to the centenary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, “who left us his imperishable work and his example.”
