Greater Good Institute and AltruVistas are proud to launch a new travel partnership. In March 2019, Greater Good Institute and AltruVistas will be leading a diverse group of impact-driven leaders and tourists on a journey to Cartegena, Colombia.

This inaugural journey will give travelers the unique opportunity to experience the stunning natural beauty, extraordinary diversity, and culture-rich and kind people of Colombia, as well as the rare opportunity to broaden their awareness about the global issue of child trafficking.

On this journey, participants will spend a blissful few days in the Caribbean, visiting beaches and exploring the beautiful Colombian city of Cartagena and UNESCO Heritage Sites, while the rest of the trip will be spent learning about the inspiring work being done on the ground to protect women and children. Travelers will meet with NGO leaders, government officials and other advocates who are working every day to protect children’s freedom. During our journey, we’ll also learn how the travel industry can play a role in preventing child sex trafficking, exploitation, and human slavery, and how you as a traveler can Travel for Good.

Additional highlights of our program include a visit to the small village La Boquilla, where we’ll take an hour canoe ride through the dense mangrove forest, explore a small fishing village and learn about the lives of the locals. The tour will also include a visit to The World Cultural Heritage village San Basilio de Palenque, where we’ll witness the rhythms, dances and influences of Afro-Colombian music, try to communicate with the Palenquero people in their traditional language and enjoy salsa dancing and a cooking class.

As an added bonus, a portion of the proceeds from the trip will help support ECPAT-USA, the leading policy organization in the United States seeking to end the commercial, sexual exploitation of children. ECPAT-USA advocates for federal and state legislation that prevents exploitation, protects children and promotes corporate responsibility among private companies, with a strong focus on the tourism sector.
